Ecorys assesses Security Risks from the Misuse of Pyrotechnics

Criminals are increasingly exploiting pyrotechnic articles for illegal activities, posing serious security risks across the European Union. These threats include the offline and online trade of illegally manufactured or diverted pyrotechnics, as well as the use of sophisticated methods used by criminals to distribute and deploy them in criminal operations. Law enforcement agencies face significant challenges in detecting, preventing and investigating the illegal production and trafficking of these articles.

In response, the European Commission (DG HOME) has tasked Ecorys and its partners to conduct a comprehensive feasibility study to identify these security risks. The study aims to provide an updated and detailed overview of the pyrotechnic threat within the EU, enabling the European Commission to make informed decisions on future policies and measures to mitigate these risks.

At Ecorys, we are commitment to supporting policymakers by providing thorough and insightful analyses. Our involvement in this project underscores our dedication to enhancing internal security policies and contributing to the safety and well-being of EU citizens.
