Ghent parking plan evaluation with parking survey

The municipality of Ghent has several parking challenges in the city center. This is why the municipality rolled out a new parking plan several years ago. We have been monitoring the impact of this plan in recent years using our scan cars. The municipality uses the results to further sharpen the policy.

Our research focused on the use of street parking in Ghent. During the morning, afternoon and evening, we used scan cars to record the geographical positions and license plates of all parked vehicles in the city center. On this basis, the parking occupancy rate, parking duration and parking motive (ratio of residents to visitors) were determined.

This study is a follow-up to our previous parking pressure surveys in 2016 and 2017 to identify the effects of the new policy.
