Ecorys to implement study on agri-food imports into the EU

The agricultural and food related industries are important drivers of employment and economic growth for the EU. As most other industries, they have also become increasingly interconnected with global value chains. EU trade in agri-food products has been rapidly growing in terms of both imports and exports. While the EU continues to be the largest global exporter and importer of agri-food products, these recent increases have created both new opportunities as well as new risks for the EU agri-food industry.

Ecorys is collaborating with Wageningen University & Research to provide the European Commission with a study about the impact of the increased imports on the EU agricultural production and agri-food processing sector. The goal of this study is to identify aspects in trade agreements and agricultural trade policies that allow producers to take advantage of market openness or to provide safeguards against risks. The research project started in January 2020 and will be completed by the end of September.
