Spatial impact of the circular economy in the North Sea Canal area

The North Sea Canal Area (NZKG) has been designated as a NOVI area, which means that together with the national government we are working on the major societal challenges ahead: energy transition, circular economy, port logistics, housing construction, space for water and climate adaptation. The goal is to draw up a coherent spatial strategy for the area, so that the social tasks can be properly incorporated into the NZKG.

The Province of North Holland, together with the NZKG program office and the agencies involved, has asked Ecorys and Metabolic to map the spatial impact of circular activity in the area. This includes the role that the NZKG plays in the regional (MRA), national and possibly even international circular transition.

Ecorys and Metabolic are using a scenario analysis to map the possible spatial impact – the (environmental) space requirements, employment and raw material flows. The results are expected in February 2023.
