Improving education and counseling for people with eczema and psoriasis

Commissioned by the Netherlands Healthcare Institute, as part of the Zinnige Zorg-Eczeem and Zinnige Zorg-Psoriasis in-depth processes, Ecorys conducted a survey in 2020 among people with a skin condition and healthcare providers on information and guidance for people with eczema and psoriasis for self-management. The aim of the survey was to gain more insight into opportunities for improvement in the care of people with eczema or psoriasis.

The study focused on patient education and counseling, identification and referral for comorbidities and psychosocial problems, and support for self-management. We used questionnaires and conducted interviews with people with skin conditions and healthcare providers within skin care (including general practitioners, dermatologists, specialist nurses and nurse specialists). For more information, read the survey report (in Dutch).

The results of the study were used by the Health Care Institute to make agreements with parties in the care sector about improvements in care for people with eczema or psoriasis. The agreements to implement these improvements are contained in the ‘Improvement Report Sensible Care for people with eczema or psoriasis‘ published in Dutch.
