Access City Award 2022

Access City Award 2022

On Friday 3rd December, the International Day of People with Disabilities, the European Commission is organising the annual Access City Award 2022 Ceremony as part of their European Day of Persons with Disabilities conference.

The Access City Award recognises cities that have improved the accessibility of their city for not only persons with disabilities but for all their citizens, and Ecorys has been working on it for the past 6 years!

This year, 40 cities across the European Union applied for the Award. National experts pre-selected candidates and an EU expert jury then shortlisted the following 6 countries, in alphabetical order: Barcelona (Spain), Helsinki (Finland), Leuven (Belgium), Luxembourg City (Luxembourg), Palma (Spain) and Porto (Portugal).

The winners of the Award will be announced at a hybrid Ceremony. This event is organised by the European Commission together with the European Disability Forum and attended by around 400 people each year. This year’s edition of the Access City Award will give a special mention to a city that has made outstanding efforts to make its train stations accessible for persons with disabilities, marking the European Year of Rail.
