Client: DG EAC and DG EMPL | Sectors: Social Policy

Ecorys was tasked with developing an interactive community of practice to bring cohesion and momentum to the adult learning sector.

We developed a highly effective targeted and integrated communications strategy in the process to enhance the impact of Electronic Platform for Adult Learning in Europe (EPALE).

The aim of the project was to drive up quality by giving adult learning professionals comprehensive and multilingual access to leading experts and the best adult learning resources from across Europe. This included a quarterly newsletter and an efficient, knowledgeable and well-coordinated helpdesk to assist and advise the EPALE community.

It also helped develop the skills and competencies of staff and stakeholders through an open access, mutual learning approach, and to stimulate innovation, helping members exchange ideas and learn from each other, creating new connections between different topic areas and countries. As part of this, we facilitated and moderated productive, lively online discussion groups.

We further aimed to improve both policy and practice by linking developments at local, regional, national and European levels and by providing a focal point to inform ongoing development of adult learning programmes.

The development of the community followed a structured and staged developmental approach, founded on user feedback to ensure an optimal user experience. We created an intuitive platform infrastructure, enabling users to locate desired information and resources quickly and easily.

We have also organised events through the project, welcoming over 220 delegates to the EPALE Launch Conference, with key representation from the European Commission including Commissioner Tibor Navracsics and Michel Servoz, Director-General for Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion.

The Platform currently has 42,000+ registered users from across 36 countries around Europe. High-quality information and resources uploaded regularly and systematically to EPALE with over 20,000 pieces of content in total.
