Ecorys to activate facilitators for economic growth in the Eastern Neighbourhood partner countries

February 3, 2017 - Ecorys has been commissioned by the European Commission to conduct the project ‘Mayors for Economic Growth’ for the next four years. Ecorys will encourage local authorities in the six Eastern Neighbourhood (EaP) partner countries to become active facilitators for economic growth and job creation, by strengthening their technical skills and capacities to implement local economic strategies, in line with the principles of good governance and sound financial management. Ecorys will collaborate with GFA, PMCG, Noblet, and VASSR.

Responsibilities of municipalities vary from country to country, but they can play an important role in implementing the national policy goals and making real changes on the ground with a direct impact on economic and living conditions for the population. The objective of the project is to support the sustainable economic growth of municipalities in the EaP region by encouraging them to move towards more accountable, transparent and business-oriented local administration systems.

Sustainable local economic development is the process by which local authorities develop together with their local partners (other public organisations, business and non-governmental sector i.e. civil society) a better business environment and thus create the conditions for private sector-led economic growth and employment generation, from which all communities benefit.
