Review of the drinking water directive

Review of the drinking water directive

The European Commission adopted on 1 February a proposal for a revised drinking water directive to improve the quality of drinking water and provide greater access and information to citizens.

The results of Ecorys’ evaluation of the Directive and recommendations stemming from the impact assessment of various policy options have largely been taken forward in the adopted COM proposal for a revised Drinking Water Directive.

The revised Directive further integrates findings and recommendations on drinking water parameters by the WHO, it responds to the European Citizens’ Initiative ‘Right2Water‘ and is a contribution to the sixth UN Sustainable Development Goal.
