On the 19th of April 2017, the European Commission launched an initiative for the sustainable development of the blue economy in the western Mediterranean region. With the initiative, the European Commission encourages the ten countries involved, to work together on maritime safety and security, sustainable blue growth and jobs, and the preservation of ecosystems and biodiversity in the Mediterranean Sea.

April 21, 2017 - Ecorys, leading a consortium with RISE Acreo, has been selected to be the advisor for the Directorate General for Competition of the European Commission in the ICT and media sector. It will be a multiple framework contract for the provision of consultancy services on technical, economic and legal matters in the context of ICT and media competition cases. The contract will run for a period of four years as from 2017 and has a value of up to 2 800 000 EUR.

As a completion of a two-year study by Ecorys, a book called "Public expenditure control and quality in Latin America and the Caribbean - The role of the Legislature and the Supreme Audit Institution", was published in San Salvador on March 23rd 2017. The book is based on a comparative study between 7 countries (Chile, Colombia, El Salvador, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Dominican Republic) that was effectuated by Ecorys.

 Analysis by Ecorys has found that resident engagement is key to ensuring effective housing improvement projects. When housing improvement works capture the trust and engagement of residents, a positive impact on their efficiency and cost-effectiveness may be seen, as well as on the resulting resident satisfaction, the researchers found. Eight in-depth case studies carried out by Ecorys’ Policy and Research team have been included in a recent report by Eurofound: The European Foundation for the Improvement of Living and Working Conditions.

April 18, 2017 - Ecorys has completed a five-year project with Department for International Development (DFID) in Nigeria. The Independent Monitoring and Evaluation Programme (IMEP) aimed to increase individual and collective performance of five State Level Programmes.

Ecorys is to design and implement a four-year communications strategy in El Salvador. The communications will raise awareness of the importance and impact of EU cooperation in El Salvador in achieving its development objectives independently of funding sources or mechanisms.     The project is led by Ecorys in consortium with AECOM, with the strategy implemented until 2021.

Under the DG DEVCO Framework Contract (the European Commission's Directorate-General for International cooperation and Development) the Programme Management and Communications department (PMC) in the UK has recently won a communication project to work with the European Delegation in Nicaragua.
