ECORYS preparing Hungarian Renewable Energy Action Plan 2020 PDF Print E-mail

22 July 2010 – An ECORYS-led consortium is currently preparing the Hungarian Renewable Energy Action Plan (REAP) for submission to the European Union. As part of the EU climate and energy policy (the so-called ’20-20-20 targets’) Hungary has a set target of 13% renewable energy to be reached by 2020. ECORYS and partners are currently reviewing national documents regarding renewable energy and are finalising the draft Hungarian REAP.

The EU 20-20-20 targets a series of demanding climate and energy targets to be met by 2020:

  • reduction in EU greenhouse gas emissions of at least 20% below 1990 levels;
  • 20% of EU energy consumption to come from renewable resources;
  • 20% reduction in primary energy use compared with projected levels, to be achieved by improving energy efficiency.

The Hungarian REAP and its goal of 13% renewable energy in 2020 is part of these overall European ambitions.

The tasks of ECORYS and its consortium partners include reviewing existing renewable energy policy documents, advising on new biomass pathways and other technologies and energy efficiency and savings measures, reviewing Hungarian support schemes and renewable energy solutions in built environments. They will also review the energy grid infrastructures, sustainable transport and indicators. The Hungarian REAP is expected to be finalised by September 2010.
