ECORYS addresses EU Industry Ministers PDF Print E-mail

14 July 2010 -  On July 14, ECORYS delivered a keynote speech to the EU’s Industry Ministers, who convened in Louvain-la-Neuve (Belgium) for an Informal Competitiveness Council Meeting (Industry Part). The ECORYS contribution was based on an Issues paper prepared for the Belgian Presidency by a small team from ECORYS Brussels and IDEA. The presentation provided important input to the Minister’s debate about the modernisation of Industrial Policy, and in particular the link between sustainable development and industrial competiveness. Ministers picked up on important points raised in the issues papers, such as the importance of value chains (rather than sectors), SME-based innovation and finance, the access to resources which is no longer secure, and the perverse effect of energy-subsidies in non-OECD countries. Much of the thinking behind the ECORYS papers was based on the information gained through the Sectoral Competitiveness Framework which ECORYS is running with DG Enterprise.
