Waste to energy in Rotterdam

The City of Rotterdam has initiated the establishment of a District Heating Company, which will tap residual heat from waste incineration plants and use this heat to produce substantial extra capacity to the city’s heating network. The company is envisaged to be a joint venture between the city and an international energy company.

ECORYS has been commissioned to support the project organization with financial advisory services related to the audit, development and refinement of the underlying business case of the city heating project. Specific services have been a review of the original financial model, financial analysis that enables strategic decision making, remodelling as the business case develops, and ongoing support in the field of financial structuring of the project. Overall goal was the optimization of the business case.
