Plans to expand Port Said

The Suez Canal has the potential of becoming one of the prime locations for port services, transshipment and industrial development. Moreover, further development of the Suez Canal area can boost Egypt’s economic growth. In cooperation with DHV, ECORYS has drafted the Master plan for the expansion of Port Said East Port at the Mediterranean entrance of the Suez Canal. This is the biggest project that is currently being developed in Egypt and has an enormous potential to boost economy and trade. The Master plan maps out the envisaged expansion of the port area of 35 km2 and a related Industrial Zone of 87 km2.

ECORYS has carried out the economic and financial analysis for this development, advised on the way to optimize the involvement of the private sector and drafted an investment guide for potential investors. Our analysis confirmed the economic and financial feasibility of the project and formed the basis for the investment strategy and investment guide. The Egyptian authorities will use these documents to further prepare the project, communicate with possible investors and tenants and finally procure and realise the project.
