ECORYS Nederland is one of the largest economic research and consulting companies in Europe. ECORYS was founded after the merger of the Dutch companies NEI (Nederlands Economisch Instituut) and Kolpron Consultants (both based in Rotterdam) and the British company ECOTEC Research and Consulting.

As the recent crunch in global credit and equity markets starts to hit real economies around the globe, ECORYS briefly reflects on its consequences for infrastructure and PPP project financing.

 No decision yet on potentially largest rail project ever in Africa
A proposed railway link, connecting both Rwanda’s capital as well as Burundi’s Musongati mining region to the port of Dar Es Salaam in Tanzania, is envisaged to open up the Great Lakes area to global maritime transport connectivity via the Indian Ocean.

 Market for PPP in Central Asia
Identifying opportunities for the IFC to provide advisory services to national and municipal governments in Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Azerbaijan for structuring and implementing PPP.

 Montenegro’s first road PPP?
ECORYS provided a second opinion on the financial part of the feasibility study of two major highway investments, a review of the institutional environment for PPP and a feasibility assessment of various PPP models in Montenegro.

 Supporting the water sector in Kazakhstan
ECORYS, in a team with Witteveen + Bos, performed the operational and financial audit of the water company in Shymkent as well as the financial feasibility study of the investment programmes.

 Is Yemen ready for PPP?
Designing a PPP Program for The Republic of Yemen. The scope of the project includes policy, legal, financial and institutional analysis and the feasibility assessment of possible pilot projects.

 Plans to expand Port Said
Drawing an Investment Guide to interest project developers, investors and end-users in the plans to expand Port Said East Port and develop a related Industrial Zone.

 PPP capacity building in Bulgaria
This November a mission to Sofia, Bulgaria was undertaken to provide a three day training on the development of PPP. The training is part of ECORYS’ assignment to provide assistance on the capacity development of the officials and employees of Bulgarian public authorities.

 Waste to energy in Rotterdam
The Rotterdam Development Corporation (OBR) initiated a project team to deal with the restart of development of a city heating company in Rotterdam. The city heating company will tap residual heat from waste incineration plants and use this heat to produce substantial extra capacity to the city’s heating network.

 Increasing lobby for broadening the A1 in the Netherlands
The regional business community in the neighbourhood of Apeldoorn and Twente commissioned ECORYS to investigate the necessity of capacity expansion of the A1 highway between Apeldoorn and the German border and the possibilities of financing this capacity expansion.
