Max van der Sleen majored Institutional Economics (Drs cum laude, 1978) at the Groningen University (Netherlands). He also studied at the School of Development Studies, University of Norwich, UK (MA with distinction, 1978). After his studies Max van der Sleen worked for the United Nations Development Programme in South Korea for two years, before joining the Netherlands Economic Institute (NEI) in 1981. During the 1980s Max van der Sleen worked in many of the competence areas of ECORYS (a.o. Transport, Agriculture, Environment) and gradually specialized in programme monitoring and evaluations. Most of his assignments were in Asia and Africa. From 1990-1992 he lived in Budapest as the very first project teamleader for the European Commission, responsible for delivering the Environmental sector support programme. Between 1993 and 1999, NEI contracts with the European Commission and World Bank, took him into Russia and the other states that emerged from the former Soviet Union. In the late nineties Max van der Sleen became director of the Macro and Sector Policies Group of NEI, which soon after merged with Kolpron and ECOTEC to become ECORYS. In 2004 Max van der Sleen was appointed Chair of ECORYS Netherlands BV and in 2008 Chair of the Board of Directors of ECORYS. |
